Dr. Alberto Ambard is one of the most experienced and educated dentists in Oregon. He is a leader in the dental community, where he is known for his expertise in resolving cases related to esthetics, bite problems, implants, snoring and TMJ/TMD. He was born in Caracas, Venezuela where he completed dental school at Universidad Central de Venezuela, one of the best universities in South America. He came to the United States in 1998 and completed a Master's of Science in Clinical Dentistry along with a Certificate in Prosthodontics at The University of Alabama at Birmingham (2001). He then moved to Chicago, where he finished a Certificate in Maxillofacial Prosthetics at The University of Chicago Hospitals (2002).

In 2003 he established in Oregon and started his private practice. In addition, he became a part time instructor at Oregon Health Science University.Over the years, Alberto gained reputation for managing the most challenging dental cases. He has been very active in helping the Portland dental community by means of providing continuing dental education courses for general dentists, hygienist and specialists. Alberto has lectured extensively locally and nationally. He has also published numerous articles in medical and dental literature and has conducted research in the field of dental implants. He is interested in patient satisfaction and some of his research relates to this topic.

In addition to his private practice, Alberto is in charge of teaching dental implants to over 90 dentists associated with Kaiser Permanente.

During his free time Alberto enjoys playing with his children, listening to music and playing (at a below ordinary level) tennis or classical guitar.

Philosophy:
Alberto is known for being a direct straight shooter. He believes that one can't suceed in dentistry without a personal relationship with the patient. At our office, nobody calls him but by his name as he feels the use of the term "doctor" can be a barrier for communication.

Alberto believes the success of dentistry has to do with meeting patient's expectations while educating the patient about what his/ her realistic expectations should be according to the clinical condition. It is not uncommon to receive two and at times three of four options of treatments to resolve a problem. In our office we do not start treatment until the patient has a very clear understanding of the problem and the possible solutions, along with the impact of such solutions from a clinical, personal and financial perspectives.

Alberto strongly believes in comprehensive dentistry and in the relationship between oral health and the overall systemic health. While he will look into resolving a local problem or concern, he will always give you a big picture as well. As a result, he is very sensitive to factors that at times are ignored: your age, your general health, your social behaviors, etc.

Alberto believes strongly in evidence based dentistry. This means he will practice treatments that has been tested in well conducted research. At times, unfortunately, there is not enough evidence to resolve a particular issue, in which case, Alberto will use the best available data.

Alberto believes strongly in prevention and in finding ways to avoid you spending time and money in the future for things that were not caught before.

While Alberto is consider one of the top esthetic experts in town, he is not the typical "cosmetic dentist". Alberto believes in the close relationship between esthetics and function and the balance between good esthetics and conservative treatment.

Finally, and when it comes to resolve bite problems and TMJ/TMD issues, Alberto is strongly against dogma. There are many philosophies of treatment that are dictated by commercial institutes designed to educate general dentists. As an expert and specialist, Alberto knows the limitations and advantages of all of these schools of thought. Thus, he is not attached to any of them.
